How we quote, how we work, and what you can expect from us.
About these terms
These terms apply to quotations issued by and work carried out by SP Silicone Sealants Limited, The Historic Dockyard, Chatham, Kent ME4 4QX. Where a written quotation or a main contractor's order includes its own terms, those documents take precedence over anything stated here.
Using this website means you accept these terms and our privacy policy. Nothing on this website is a contract offer in itself.
Quotations
Quotations are free and fixed in writing, based on the information, photographs, drawings and access arrangements provided to us at the time. Where those details change — additional metreage, more removal work than described, different substrates or restricted access — we will tell you before proceeding and reprice the affected work.
Unless the quotation states otherwise, it assumes safe, reasonable access is provided at no cost to us, that power and water are available where needed, and that the areas to be sealed are clear and ready for work.
Quotations do not include scaffold, cradle, MEWP or other access equipment unless it says so explicitly, nor do they include making good decorations, tiling, trays, pointing or other trades' work.
The work we do and do not do
We apply silicone sealant and mastic. We do not carry out fire-stopping or intumescent sealing, tiling, plumbing, glazing, rendering or repointing, and we will not seal over a defect where sealant is not the correct remedy. Where we identify such a problem we will tell you plainly so it can be put right by the appropriate trade first.
Sealant is a maintenance material with a finite service life that depends on substrate, movement, exposure, ventilation and cleaning. We will tell you what service life a detail should reasonably give in its conditions.
Guarantees
We do not advertise or offer a guarantee on sealant work. What we commit to is correct product selection for the substrate and exposure, full removal and preparation before application, joints sized and backed for the movement expected, and honest advice about expected service life.
Nothing in these terms affects your statutory rights as a consumer, including the right to work carried out with reasonable care and skill.
Your responsibilities
Please make sure areas are accessible and, in occupied premises, that pets, children and belongings are kept clear of freshly applied sealant until it has cured. We will tell you the cure time before we leave.
Freshly applied sealant must not be exposed to water, cleaning or heavy use before it has cured. Damage caused by early use is not something we can be responsible for.
On commercial sites, please provide site inductions, permits and access windows in good time, and tell us in advance of any out-of-hours or restricted working requirements so they can be planned and priced.
Booking, changes and cancellation
Dates are agreed with you and held in good faith. Weather can prevent external work being carried out safely or correctly; where that happens we will rearrange to the next suitable dry window rather than seal a damp joint.
If you need to cancel or move a booking, please give us as much notice as you reasonably can. Where materials have been ordered specifically for your job, or a booked slot cannot be filled at short notice, we may charge reasonable costs actually incurred.
Payment
Payment terms are stated on your quotation or invoice. Domestic work is generally invoiced on completion. Commercial work is invoiced in accordance with the agreed order or programme.
Where materials of significant value must be ordered specifically for a job — for example bespoke colour-matched product — we may request payment for those materials in advance, and will always say so on the quotation.
Insurance and liability
We hold £2 million public liability insurance and can supply certification on request. We are CITB and CSCS accredited and issue RAMS on request for commercial work.
We accept responsibility for loss or damage caused by our negligence. We are not responsible for pre-existing defects, for the condition of substrates we were not asked to inspect, for consequential loss such as loss of profit or business interruption, or for damage arising from use of the sealed area before the stated cure time.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for anything else which cannot lawfully be limited.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with any part of the work, please contact us on 07342 520584 or at spsilicone@mail.com as soon as possible. Two people run this business and both attend the work, so a problem can be looked at quickly and put right where it is our responsibility.
